Liberation
1994.02.08
150 x 200, acrylic on canvas
The Soul (of which the beloved is the model) frees itself from the illusions, reuniting itself with the immortal ‘Self’. To the left, a dumb and decisive witness: Death. It is not only a spiritual metaphor: the woman’s physicality is represented with might along with her personal need of liberation.

The Garden of Eden
1994.02.13
150 x 200, acrylic on canvas

The painting has been remade
nel 1999.07

The male figure is not exactly Adam: it is not even a man. And yet, in the painting, it represents the ‘Self’. Instead of the head we can see the dove of the Spirit. In his hand there is the apple that he offers Eve: it is not theancient temptation, but rather its op- posite; the offer of life. So Eve accepts it, with trembling love - not only as the tangible fruit that it appears to be, but as nutrition for the soul.

The Dream
1994.02.14
280 x 280, acrylic on canvas
A man and a woman embracing as they sleep? Yes, but also, as a metaphor, the abandonment of the soul to the unconscious. Just as the moon reflects the light of the sun, so the unconscious (which, in the painting, has the same chalky white face as the moon) reflects the spiritual centre of existence.
