A vision If we look again from the Fòro to the Palatine slopes, we can see now, beyond the arboreal top of the hill, this magic building, half a pyramid and half a sail. A reversed pyramid which is not standing on the ground but raises to the sky or descends from it; or even an immense ship with its keel directed towards the East; or, even better, a spaceship… What an impact on the Foro Romano ruins!: the relationship between the past and the modern couldn’t be more desecrating. Nevertheless, when an image of death and destruction, as the Foro is, is facing the one of a new birth and even of an ideal ascension, something truly sacred is happening. It speaks to us about life, death and spiritual overcoming of death, not only about a comparison between epochs and styles. Therefore, we can not remain attached to the ruins of a memorable past, nor can we bound ourselves to their mere preservation. It is by means of an insight in our very soul that we can generate a future and celebrate a higher vision and a new spiritual opening. |
