L'Arche des Neiges (1/2) Lioran (Cantal) 1977 - 80 Multipurpose Sports and Activity Center Department of Cantal (Somival) Structural Engineer: Jean Marie Hereng |
Exterior Interior |

The building was built primarily underground to limit its impact on the surrounding landscape. It seems as if the interior leans against something light like a gesture, or the crescent of the moon ... there is also a complementary rapport between the curve of this crescent and the angles and straight lines of the nearby village. The hall is constructed with three hyperbolic paraboloids in lamllated wood. Stone walls recall local building traditions. The interior is equipped as a multipurpose sports and activity area. The skating rink is built with plastic material, allowing the space to be used for other activities as well. |
