Perspective view of the proposed solution

Detail

Perspective view of the existing state

The new use of the former industrial areas clearly constitutes an opportunity for the city, with the purpose of creating new dwellings inside the existing volumes, which are generally preserved.
In this project, however, Mazzucconi proposes an alternative solution to the one of the simple conservation of the existing volumes.
By means of the demolition of a little part of the sheds, it would in fact be possible to create a square, with many positive consequences, between them the recuperation of the demolished area in a new building on one side of the square, which would receive a modern and stimulating design, thus enhancing the quality of the environment.
Instead of an anonymous industrial area, it would therefore be possible to think of a complex, which would have its own image and identity. This would not only constitute an aesthetic advantage, but a socio-economic one as well, as we could expect many commercial activities to develop around the square, with positive effects of promotion and socialization. In such a way, the area would be integrated to the city, while bringing an improvement in the quality of life of its inhabitants. Instead of being simple occupants of anonymous sheds, they could reach a social integration in a real community.
